- Cindy BLODGETT. Cindy (UMaine '98) was one of the best college basketball players in the country.
She led all Division I shooters in scoring for the '95-'96 school year with a 27.8 ppg when she set the NCAA total
points record for a sophomore. She repeated as top scorer in '96-'97. In '97-'98 she came in second with
a 27.0 ppg (missed six games due to injury); the leader was Allsion Feaster of Harvard with a 28.5 ppg. Cindy
became the 4th leading scorer in the history of Division I. Her teams won eight straight state/conference titles
while she was at Lawrence High and UMaine.
She was drafted in the 1998 WNBA Draft in the first round by Cleveland
and had an awful season, hardly playing at all because of an over abundance of Rocker guards. On May 24, 1999,
she was traded to the Sacremento Monarchs. She once again saw little playing time. In August, 1999 she was named an
assistant coach for Boston University. The 2000 season brought just a few mpg's. She was released by Sacremento during
the 2001 season.
She continued playing ball in the French Professional League. On 10/4/2002, she was inducted into
the New England Basketball Hall of Fame located on the campus of URI in South Kingstown, RI. Also inducted were Bob Cousy,
Rebecca Lobo, and others. (Cindy is in the high school category. She led Lawrence High to four straight state championships
with 2,596 career points.) In December, 2002, the Springfield Spirit of the NWBL drafted Cindy.
Cindy bounces around (B.U.(?), Brown) for a few years before being named UMaine Head Coach, Women's Basketball
in May, 2007. Good luck, Cindy.
