SC Waves 05 06 01
Tournaments 00 02

Jun 22, 1996 (Game #01): Westerly visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
Season opener was a close game until the Waves scored four runs in
the bottom of the 6th and then held on for a 6-3 victory over
Westerly. In the 6th, five Waves batters in a row reached via a hit or
walk.
Kate MacLean pitched a great game and also had two hits and two runs
scored to lead the team.
Melanie Gregory had two hits, while Sarah Langlois, Sarah Stanhope
(also had good catch in CF), and Jessica Wood had big RBI's in the
6th.
Cayce Kenny, who drew three straight walks, made a fine catch in CF.
Kelly Steely, Becca Newman, Emily Moseley, and Kristen Jeremiah played
well in the field.
Jessica Wood caught a fantastic game.
It was fun to see Lauren Manfred, Christie Ward, Renee Hellert, and
Krista Martin again.
Westerly 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 -- 3 4 3
SC Waves 0 0 0 2 0 4 x -- 6 7 3
Ward and Morin; MacLean and Wood.
Jun 22, 1996 (Game #02): Westerly visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves scored often and early and were up 11-1 after the 3rd and
eased into a 11-4 win over Westerly.
Kristen Jeremiah pitched well striking out nine.
Jessica Wood, Kelly Steely, Becca Newman, Emily Moseley, Kate
MacLean, Sarah Langlois (with a great catch in RF), Melanie Gregory,
and Amy Ap-icerno all looked good.
Sarah Stanhope was behind the plate.
SC Waves 3 3 5 0 0 0 0 -- 11 5 3
Westerly 1 0 0 0 2 0 1 -- 4 8 3
O'Meara, Ward (4) and Morin; Jeremiah and Stanhope.

Jun 23, 1996 (Game #03): Seekonk visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves won a time-limit six inning decision over Seekonk by 7-5.
Seekonk was coming on B in the late innings.
Kristen Jeremiah gained the win while striking out 12. Becca Newman
had two hits to lead the offense.
Melanie Gregory, Emily Moseley, Kate MacLean, Kelly Steely, Cayce
Kenny, Sarah Langlois, Amy Ap-icerno, and Sarah Stanhope all played
well.
Jessica Wood caught a fine game.
Seekonk 0 1 1 0 1 2 -- 5 2 3
SC Waves 4 0 0 3 0 x -- 7 5 3
? and ?; Jeremiah and Wood.
Jun 23, 1996 (Game #04): Seekonk visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
Highlight of this game against Seekonk was a 4-6-3 double play by
Newman to Gregory to Moseley. Super! We can all go home now!
Unfortunately the Waves dug themselves a hole that they were not
quite (almost but this is not horseshoes) able to climb out of. The
game went to the wire with the bases loaded and the tying run on 3rd
with two outs and Kristen Jeremiah at the plate. Kristen hit a wicked
liner straight to the 2B and that was it. Good, tense, game!
Sloppy running and throwing hurt the Waves.
Sarah Langlois pitched well until the Seekonk bats got hot in the
4th. Kate MacLean pitched well in relief.
Cayce Kenny made a fine catch in RF.
Becca Newman continued her fine hitting with two more hits. Jessica
Wood, Kelly Steely, and Amy Ap-icerno played well.
Sarah Stanhope wore the "tools of ignorance".
SC Waves 0 0 2 0 4 0 1 -- 7 5 3
Seekonk 0 0 3 4 0 1 x -- 8 10 3
? and ?; Langlois, MacLean (4) and Stanhope.

Jun 26, 1996 (Game #05): Portsmouth Lil' Bear Panthers at
Portsmouth High School
The Waves scored four runs in the bottom of the 1ST but it wasn't
enough as Portsmouth chipped away for a 5-4 win.
Sarah Stanhope and Emily Mosely had big hits to drive in runs in the
1st. Melanie Gregory and Sarah Langlois also chipped in with a hit
apiece.
Becca Newman and Melanie Gregory continued to work well together as
our 2B-SS combo. Becca was also on the front end of a 6-3 double play.
Kate MacLean pitched well striking out five.
Kristen Jeremiah, Cayce Kenny, and Kelly Steely looked good in the
field; Jessica Wood had a good game behind the plate.
Portsmouth 2 1 2 0 0 0 0 -- 5 3 3
SC Waves 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 4 4 3
Perruzzi and Lombardo; MacLean and Wood.
Jun 26, 1996 (Game #06): Portsmouth Lil' Bear Panthers at
Portsmouth High School
South County could manage only three hits, one each by Jessica Wood,
Becca Newman, and Emily Moseley as they lost a heart-breaker in the
bottom of the 7th on an infield throwing error.
Newman's and Moseley's hits came in the 3rd when Becca, Kristen
Jeremiah, and Sarah Stanhope scored the Waves' only three runs of the
game.
Jeremiah struck out seven Portsmouth batters.
Melanie Gregory, Cayce Kenny, Sarah Langlois, Kelly Steely and Kate
MacLean played good "D".
Sarah Stanhope caught.
SC Waves 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 -- 3 3 3
Portsmouth 1 0 1 0 0 1 1 -- 4 1 3
Jeremiah and Stanhope; McDermott and MacLean.

Jun 29, 1996 (Games #07 & #08): Ledyard, Conn visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Ledyard Colonels were a B team from #1 batter through #9 batter.
The team consists mostly of JV players from the high school. The
varsity won the state championship in "LL" Division.
The Colonels slaughtered the Waves in the first game. The Waves
were respectable in the second until the pitching tourned sour late in
the game.
Kelly Steely caught for the first time and did very well.

Jul 06, 1996 (Game #09): Lee's Gals visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
Lee's Gals were up 7-2 going into the bottom of the 5th when the
Waves rallied for five runs to tie 7-7 and that was the final score
two innings later at the conclusion.
The Waves could manage only four hits, all singles. Sarah Langlois
had a hit in the 3rd inning, while Becca Newman, Kate MacLean, and
Cayce Kenny added singles in the five run 5th.
Kate MacLean pitched well after walking the first three batters and
deserved better defensive support when Lee's Gals scored three times
in the 4th after two were out and no runners were on. She retired the
last 10 batters in a row. Great job!
There was a great relay throw from right fielder Cayce Keeny to
Becca Newman to Kelly Steely to nail Beth "what do I do with this
hairband" Covill at 3B when she decided not to accept the double.
Amy Ap-icerno, Melanie Gregory, Kristen Jeremiah, and Emily Moseley
played well on defense.
Jessica Wood caught.
Lee's Gals 3 0 1 3 0 0 0 -- 7 4 3
SC Waves 2 0 0 0 5 0 0 -- 7 4 3
Covill, Pappas (4) and Mizer; MacLean and Wood.
Jul 06, 1996 (Game #10): Lee's Gals visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves won, going away by 17-7 with Lee's Gals throwing in the
towel in the top of the 7th.
Highlights included Emily Moseley's catch of a line drive in CF and
a rifle shot to Cayce Kenny at 1B to double up the runner on first.
Way to go Emily and Cayce. Also, Melanie Gregory hit a wicked line
drive over the RF's head for a triple - almost a homerun as the throw
nailed Emily at the plate. Nice swing Melanie!
Then there was the dropped 3rd strike controversy on a ball hitting
the dirt, the batter swinging and missing, and the ball bouncing up
and the catcher catching it. I'm still looking in the rule book.
Kristen Jeremiah pitched well, striking out seven batters.
The Waves had 19 hits, seven of them in the last inning when Lee's
Gals played the infield in but it backfired as hit after hit got by
the outstretched arms of the middle infielders. Gregory, Kelly
Steely, and Jessica Wood hat three hits each; Becca Newman, Jeremiah,
Kate MacLean, and Sarah Langlois had two hits each; Cayce Kenny and
Amy Ap-icerno had one each.
Kelly Steely was behind the plate.
SC Waves 1 2 1 3 1 2 7 -- 17 19 3
Lee's Gals 2 1 0 0 0 4 X -- 7 9 3
Jeremiah and Steely; Saviano, Doyle (6) and Levoie, Mizer (3).
Umpire: Brian Lamothe

Jul 20, 1996 (Game #11): East Greewich Raiders visit Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves played well but not well enough as East Greenwich had
their hitting shoes on and managed a very easy 11-3 victory with 10
well placed hits.
Getting hits for the Waves were - Kristen Jeremiah with a 2nd inning
leadoff double, Jessica Wood with an rbi single in the 3rd, Becca
Newman with another rbi single in the 3rd, and Sarah Langlois with
another rbi single in the 4th, up the gap in right centerfield.
Kate MacLean pitched well, striking out three, and the defense
played well.
Amy Ap-icerno, Cayce Kenny, Kate Letourneau, in her first game of
the season, Emily Moseley, and Kelly Steely all played well.
Wood was the catcher.
Raiders 0 2 1 4 1 3 X -- 11 10 3
SCWaves 0 0 2 1 0 0 X -- 3 4 3
Early and Karlowicz; MacLean and Wood.
Jul 20, 1996 (Game 12): East Greewich Raiders visit Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves outhit the East Greenwich Raiders 9-4 but lost 9-8.
Sloppy defense again killed the Waves as they lost their fourth
one-run game.
Kelly Steely had three hits to lead the Waves. Kristen Jeremiah
and Sarah Langlois both had two hits apiece. Sarah's hits included a
double to right-center.
Kate Letourneau and Cayce Kenny also had hits.
Kristen Jeremiah pitched for the Waves striking out six.
The game was tied in the bottom of the 6th. Materese led off for
East Greenwich and struck out but reached first on the dropped strike.
Kara Early then bunted and the defense threw wild to first with the
winning run scoring all the way from first base.
Throwing continues to hurt the Waves. There were a few good moments
- Kate Letourneau nailed a runner at home on a ground ball to her at
shortstop; Kelly Steely and Jessica Wood picked a runner off third
base in a 2-6-2 rundown, and Sarah Langlois had a nice unassisted
double play on a pop-up at first base.
Amy Ap-icerno, Emily Moseley, Kate MacLean and Becca Newman played
well.
Kelly Steely caught a good game after a shaky 1st inning.
SC Waves 0 0 5 0 3 0 X -- 8 9 3
Raiders 1 0 0 4 3 1 X -- 9 4 3
Jeremiah and Steely; Warington and Hurley.
Umpire: Brian Lamothe

Jul 21, 1996 (Game #13): Custom Home Loan visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves had a big four run 4th inning to hold on for a 4-1 victory
over Custom Home Loan.
A combination of walks, errors, and three base hits lead to the four
runs. Becca Newman and Kristen Jeremiah had two hits each while Kate
MacLean chipped in with the last of the Wave's five hits.
Kristen Jeremiah pitched a two hitter while striking out six. She
set CHL down in order in four of the seven innings and faced five
batters in two innings and six batters in one inning.
Amy Ap-icerno, Cayce Kenny, Sarah Langlois, Kate Letourneau, Emily
Moseley, and Jessica Wood all played well.
Kelly Steely continues to impress behind the plate.
CHL 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 1 2 3
SCWaves 0 0 0 4 0 0 X -- 4 5 3
Vargas and Laider; Jeremiah and Steely.
Jul 21, 1996 (Game #14): Custom Home Loan visits Old Mountain Field,
Wakefield, RI
The Waves declined the time-limit victory and the gesture backfired
as CHL rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 7th for another one
run victory over the Waves as they won 7-6.
The Waves magage to lose their focus game after game and come up
with a bad throw or a dumb play to throw away a "sure" victory.
Sarah Langlois was the hitting star with two hits, one of them a
double. Kristen Jeremiah contributed two hits. Kate Letourneau singled
while Emily Moseley had a triple with a liner over the right fielder's
head.
Jessica Wood picked a runner off 3rd (2-1-5) working well with Kate
MacLean and third baseman Kelly Steely. Becca Newman had a fine
defensive play on a hot liner that she speared and turned into a double
play (4-3).
Amy Ap-icerno, Cayce Kenny, and Kate Letourneau played well.
Kate MacLean pitched well striking out eight and deserved better
defensive support.
Wood played excellently behind the plate.
SC Waves 0 0 1 2 1 2 0 -- 6 6 3
CHL 0 3 1 0 0 1 2 -- 7 6 3
MacLean and Wood; Austin and Dopart.
Umpire: Brian Lamothe

Jul 27, 1996 (Game #15): Lee's Gals II at Clegg Field, Warwick.
The Waves got crushed (mercy rule, first time this year) by Lee's
Gals II in the opening game of the N.S.A. State Tournament.
It was a weird game as the Waves played well offensively and
defensively but their line drives were caught while Lee's Gals II seem
to "nickel and dime" the Waves with dinky hits that fell here and
there.
The Waves were without Jessica Wood who broke her collar bone at the
URI Women's Basketball Camp on Tuesday. She is out for the season.
And, with Candace (Mono) Britt deciding not to try a comeback, the
Waves "active" roster is down to eleven. Becky Dion (from Chariho)
was a great addition for this tournament.
Emily Moseley continues to play an impressive centerfield as she
came up with another putout and assist on an 8-3 double play. (Why
does she always want to play first base?)
The Waves scored their only run when Sarah Langlois led off the
fourth inning with a walk. She reached second on a pass ball, third
on an infield out and scored on Becca Newman's groundout.
Kelly Steely and Kate Maclean put together back to back base hits
in the fifth but that was the extent of the Wave's offense.
Kristen Jeremiah, Sarah Langlois, and Kate Letourneau looked good
on defense.
Kate MacLean pitched well and deserved better luck. Sarah Stanhope
caught a fine game.
Lee's Gals II 3 0 2 1 3 2 X -- 11 9 3
SCWaves 0 0 0 1 0 X X -- 1 2 3
? and ?; MacLean and Stanhope.
Jul 27, 1996 (Game #16): Custom Home Loan at Clegg Field, Warwick.
Another one run loss as the Waves manage to give away another one.
The Waves were in control with Kristen Jeremiah on the mound. With
Kristen tiring, Sarah Langlois came in to relieve Kristen and her
"slow stuff" was doing the trick but the Waves just couldn't back her
up on defense.
Sarah Langlois scored three runs for the Waves. Kelly Steely had two
hits, one a double. Emily Moseley also had a double while Becca Newman,
Kate Letourneau, and Cayce Kenny had singles.
Kate MacLean and Becky Dion played well. Keely Steely had another
outstanding performance behind the plate.
SC Waves 0 0 4 1 0 1 1 -- 7 6 3
CHL 0 0 1 1 2 2 2 -- 8 4 3
